The Boat House began as a family's own bolt-hole on Sri Lanka's southern coast. Today it's run with the same care for the guests who make it theirs, a week at a time.

With a family of mixed ages and interests, Andrew and Elaine set out to build a place that was beautiful, relaxing and unique. Somewhere with the privacy and creature comforts of home, in a magically exotic spot, for making family memories.
They worked with interior designer Fiona Miles on a house that balances style, space and an unusual attention to detail, down to the hand-crafted lighting and furniture made for the rooms.
The name? On one of their early trips they bought a beautiful, completely unseaworthy and frankly overpriced old wooden fisherman's boat. It sits in the grounds to this day, a fond reminder of the decision. The house has been a Sunday Times top-ten holiday pick twice over.
